So far in 2013, Chicago homicides are down a staggering 34 percent from the same period in 2012.
The credit for such a dramatic drop goes to a new, concentrated strategy targeting at-risk areas known for homicides. In recent months, as many as 400 officers a day—most of which are working overtime—have been dispatched to focus their efforts in 20 small zones deemed the city’s most dangerous.
