An off-duty FBI agent accidentally shot somebody after he dropped his gun while doing a backflip in a bar over the weekend.
Dancing FBI Agent Shoots Man
A cell phone video of the incident shows the FBI agent in question performing some serious moves on the dance floor at Mile High Spirits Distillery and Tasting Bar in Denver at around 1 a.m. He eventually decides to take things to the next level and attempts a backflip.
The agent executes the flip, but his duty gun can be seen popping out of his holster. The handgun lands onto the floor. As the agent goes to pick it up, the gun goes off, shooting a patron in the leg.
The bumbling G-man quickly picks up the gun and re-holsters it. He then raises his hands in an “aw shucks” type gesture and walks into the crowd.
A second video of the incident, with sound, can be seen at the bottom of this post.
“It appears an off-duty Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agent was dancing at a night club when his firearm became dislodged from its waistband holster and fell onto the floor. When the agent retrieved his handgun an unintended discharge occurred, another patron was struck by a bullet in the lower leg,” the Denver Police said in a statement.
The wounded man was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
“He appears to have non-life threatening injuries,” Denver Police spokesperson Marika Putnam said.
According to the Denver Post, the dancing FBI agent was taken to Denver Police headquarters. He was then released to an FBI supervisor. The DPD is investigating the incident. Furthermore, no charges have yet been brought against the agent.
Amy Sanders, the spokeswoman for the FBI’s Denver field office, said the incident was a “personnel matter for the FBI,” the New York Times reported.
