Morgan, Hatch, Georgia and Hope are four of the nine Marine bomb-sniffing dogs who served with distinction during the war in Afghanistan and who were donated by the Marines to the Metro Transit Police Department two months ago as part of the draw-down of soldiers and canines in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Keahon says the Labrador Retrievers, all of whom were wounded in battle to some extent, are by far the most highly-skilled bomb dogs he’s worked with in his 20 years on the job.
What’s more, Sgt. Keahon said the dogs’ extensive training with the Marines in some of the most hostile environments in the world has meant that these older dogs don’t need to be taught new tricks; just treated right, fed well, and allowed to let their dogged determination take over.
