An MTA cop who gunned down a madman after being stabbed in the face feels “lucky to be alive” and says his training and instinct trumped fear during the bloody ambush.
“I just went into military-police mode,” Officer John Barnett, a combat veteran, told the Daily News before he was released from Jamaica Hospital on Thursday.
Two dozen comrades applauded.
Barnett’s left eye was swollen shut from the wound made by knife-wielding nut Edgar Owens. Doctors have told Barnett he may lose sight in it, but he expects to wear a uniform again.
