Golden Globe award nominee R. Lee Ermey, who is widely known for his role as a U.S. Marine drill instructor called “The Gunny” in the 1987 movie “Full Metal Jacket,” will be the guest of the Hoover Tactical Firearms store on May 21-22.
Ermey, a retired Marine who also appeared in “Mississippi Burning,” “Dead Man Walking” and “Apocalypse Now” and did voice-over roles in “The Simpsons,” “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2,” will be promoting an effort to change the name of the Department of the Navy to the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps.
Hoover Tactical Firearms will auction off an opportunity for people to play golf with Ermey at the Inverness Country Club on May 21. All proceeds go the Marine Corps Identity Cause.
Later that night, Ermey will participate in an invitation-only dinner with active, reserve and retired Marines. On Saturday, the public will get a chance to meet him from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the store at 1564-A Montgomery Highway.
Ermey is host for two History Channel programs: “Mail Call,” during which he discusses weaponry, tactical matters, and military history, and “Lock N’ Load with R. Lee Ermey,” which focuses on the development of weapons.
People interested in the golf outing and Marines wanting a dinner invitation can call Hoover Tactical Firearms at 822-3600.
