Firearm and firearm accessory sales have increased during the holiday season in Illinois for two primary reasons: gift shopping, and concealed carry.
“There’s been an increase for a lot of .22’s being sold, for first time guns,” said Pam Moomey of Farm and Home Supply, “and a few shotguns, as people get older, kids get older.”
In order to buy a firearm as a gift, the recipient has to have a FOID (Firearm Owners Identification) card. Many retailers recommend purchasing a gift certificate to avoid legal complications.
Concealed carry is another major reason for increased firearm sales. “There’s a lot of people that’s buying their holsters and a lot of them are buying their concealed carry guns to go along with it,” said Moomey.
The deadline for the Illinois State Police to make concealed carry applications available is Jan. 5.
“Most of my friends are either in classes, or done with their classes,” said shopper Jack Lear, “waiting to probably get their permits in March the way things are looking.”
