Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a law that will require gun owners to report any lost or stolen firearms within 72 hours and will require all gun sellers to perform background checks.

Sheriff Jeff Boyd of Rock Island County in Illinois said the reporting law will encourage gun owners to be more responsible.

The requirement to report lost or stolen firearms goes into effect immediately.  All sellers will have to do background checks before the sale of a firearm beginning January 1.
