Beginning in May 2017, the male service and dress frame cap will be the universal cap for both male and female marines.

Beginning in May 2017, both male and female Marines will be required to wear the male cap. In a move approved by Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos, the Marines’ Uniform Board has recommended the male service and dress frame cap as the “universal cap” for all Marines, according to a memo.

Starting in April 2014, all female recruits will be issued the male cap, but female marines won’t be required to own them until May 2017.
