Private citizens with a concealed weapon permit would be able to carry electro-shock weapons commonly called “stun guns” or “Tasers” under legislation approved today by the state Senate.
Republican state Senator Rick Jones is one of the main backers of the legislation. He says the weapons could only be used in self defense. He also says instances of “stun guns” causing a death are extremely rare.
“We’re replacing bullets, so you have the option of using something that is 99.9 percent safe, doesn’t cause. On occasion, if somebody has a heart full of cocaine or something like that, it could. But remember, you can only use it if you’re about to be murdered or raped,” he says.
