The doors to the $4.19 million Alabama Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Operation Center opened in Montgomery today, a facility that state and local law enforcement officials say will help saves lives through improved driver training for officers and emergency personnel.

The training center was a joint effort by the city of Montgomery and the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training (APOST) Commission, and will be open for use by all law enforcement and emergency services personnel in the state. The facility is the first of its kind in Alabama.

It’s located on about 500 acres of land on Old Hayneville Road, which is just west of Dannelly Field.
