Reps. William Pascrell (D-NJ) and Danny Davis (D-Ill) introduced the “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act,” which would increase federal excise taxes on handguns from 11 percent to 20 percent and on ammunition from 11 percent to 50 percent.

Furthermore, the bill would increase the transfer tax on firearms covered under the National Firearms Act from $200 to $500 and the transfer tax on all other firearms from $5 to $100.
