Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Tactical Squad collaborated with a concerned citizen in their effort to put one more dangerous individual in jail.

Officers Boudreau and Fricke arrested 17-year-old Darnell Martin for illegally discharging a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property. The offense occurred on August 10, 2010, at the intersection of Leonidas and Palm Streets.

Serpas said, “The exchange of vital information from the citizens to the police is the main component that led to a successful arrest.”

According to investigators, the 911-dispatch center received a call from a concerned resident in the area of Leonidas and Palm Streets stating Martin was illegally firing a weapon into the air. The 911-dispatcher immediately gave a vivid description of Martin via the police radio. Members from the Tactical Unit quickly responded and flooded the area. Once the officers spotted Martin and attempted to exit their vehicle to investigate the complaint, Martin fled on foot into 8412 Palm Street. The officers pursued Martin and observed him attempting to hide a .22 caliber sawed off shotgun along side of a bed in the house. Officers Boudreau and Fricke immediately apprehended Martin and secured the weapon. Martin was positively identified and arrested. The gun was found to be stolen from Jefferson Parish.
