A new organization called SoldierSend uses a military gift registry to make it easier to send military care packages to soldiers and Marines stationed abroad.
SoldierSend.com CEO Mick Garrison created the concept after an aborted attempt to send a care package to a friend serving in Iraq. “I’m embarrassed to say he didn’t even get the package, so I thought there’s got to be an easier way,” Garrison said.
After spending two years conducting research and interviewing active duty military and their families, Garrison launched SoldierSend.
Any soldier who uses the website can create a profile and shop for a list of items, including food, personal-care products, footwear, clothes and entertainment, geared toward the military lifestyle. People can also use the site to search for a friend or soldier serving abroad and send them a package.
SoldierSend handles all the logistics. Orders are shipped out the day they are received.
