New Hampshire’s cities and towns will keep their right to license people who sell firearms.

Gov. John Lynch has vetoed a bill which would have repealed that practice. Since 1991, it’s been up to cities and towns to decide whether to require firearms retailers to get a local license. State police officials had concerns that taking away the right would cause safety issues.

Lynch also vetoed a bill that would have allowed elected officials to meet privately to discuss employee bargaining agreements before submission. The bill could have moved now-public meetings behind closed doors.
