FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA – The National Rifle Association’s Competitive Shooting Division recently hired Jessica McClain of Griffin, Georgia, as the Air Rifle/Black Powder Program Coordinator.
McClain brings to the NRA her shooting experience in smallbore rifle and air rifle after four years on the University of Mississippi Lady Rebels rifle team.
McClain also participated on the Griffin High School rifle team. McClain made the varsity rifle team as a freshman, culminating in an Individual Second Place finish at the Georgia State High School Championship in her senior year. She was one of the original members of the Wolf Creek Young Shooters Association, which is located south of Atlanta, Ga.
“It took a while to find the right person to fill this important position and Jessica has the hands-on experience that we need,” said Mike Krei, Director of NRA’s Competitive Shooting Division.
McClain’s responsibilities will include managing the NRA Junior National Air Gun Team Championships and Training Summit, which will take place in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Iowa Event Center on June 25-29, 2008. McClain will also coordinate the NRA National Muzzle Loading Championships in Friendship, Ind., and the Black Powder Long Range Target Rifle Championships in Raton, N.M. The NRA National Muzzle Loading Championships are scheduled for July 4-6, and the Black Powder Long Range Target Rifle Championships will run July 25-31.
“The position needed someone with both management experience and a practical competitive shooting background. It is very difficult to find someone with both attributes who can also relate to the shooters, coaches, and parents,” said H.Q. Moody, Manager of the Competitive Shooting Rifle Department. “Jessica came to us with the shooting sports management and competitive shooting background that we need. She is a very positive person with a ‘can-do’ attitude and has already been a great asset.”
