The owners of AR15.com, a local gun company based out of Farmington, N.Y., said they are leaving New York due to the passage of the NY Safe Act. AR15.com manufactures AR-15s, which can no longer be sold in the state of New York due to the Safe Act.
Owner Edward Avila says his company was in the middle of building a retail store and firing range on Route 96 in Farmington when the Act was passed in January. Now, 30,000 square feet of space is sitting empty on 16 acres of land.
As a result, AR15.com and its eight employees and their families are moving their business to Texas
“We filed a lawsuit [against the NY Safe Act] along with the NYS Rifle and Pistol Association and other partners, and we decided to take our tax dollars out of the state,” Avila said. “That’s the most we could possibly do to show our disappointment and disagreement with the way the politics are going in that state regarding the Safe Act.”
