Pocatello Police Capt. Rick Capell said high-risk situations involving a hostage or a person who is armed, possibly dangerous and has barricaded himself inside his home don’t happen that often.
But when they do, members of the Pocatello Police Department’s Immediate Response Unit need a reliable vehicle to quickly get them from point “A” to point “B.”
When some extra funding became available in the police department’s budget recently, the Pocatello police chief and chief financial officer for the city of Pocatello knew it might be their only chance to justify doling out a chunk of cash for the much needed purchase.
The SWAT van will be in use at least three days out of the month for training purposes.
On average, the SWAT van is used for tactical purposes 5-10 times each year.
