Madison, NC – Remington Arms Company, Inc. announced today that it has recently been awarded a $12 million contract from the US Army-TACOM (Tank-Automotive and Armament Command), for the purchase of M24 Sniper Weapon Systems (SWS) for use by the US and multiple allies in the Global War on Terrorism. 2008 marks the 20th anniversary that the M24 SWS and its variants has been the “standard” issue sniper rifle for the US Army and US Air Force.
Based on the venerable Model 700 bolt action platform, like the USMC M40, the M24 SWS provides exceptional accuracy, reliability and durability. The M24 SWS is considered the “standard” by which other sniper weapon systems are judged. It provides extreme accuracy out to 800 meters and can engage targets well beyond that distance, as well as low maintenance starting at approximately 10,000 rds. at the operator level.
“Remington welcomes the continued relationship with our nation’s military, and the opportunities to further develop and provide the solutions needed by our combat forces. We are tremendously proud to supply them with weaponry such as the M24, that meets and exceeds their combat needs to win the Global War on Terrorism,” said Brian Marvin – SR Vice President, Military, Law Enforcement and International.
This contract award marks a collaborative effort by the US TACOM and Remington Arms Company to provide the very best for US partners in support of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which supports our allies worldwide. The Model M24 SWS was designed to meet or exceed all current and anticipated mission profiles encountered and conducted by snipers in training and combat. Due to its superb reputation, the M24 SWS has been procured by a significant number of US Allies, US Law Enforcement Agencies, as well as numerous other US DOD & government agencies.
