Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice voiced her deepest regrets Wednesday for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old Japanese girl by a U.S. Marine.  The case has sparked enormous outrage in Japan and the Prime Minister has called this rape “unforgivable,” especially because it is so reminiscent of the 1995 rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl on a southern Japanese island.  Although Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda has demanded tighter Military discipline and has threated surveillance measures on all U.S. Military outposts in Japan, both the U.S. and Japanese governments have acted quickly in efforts to avoid a diplomatic drift between the two countries.  For details, click here and return back to comment.
