With just over two weeks to go until international leaders arrive in Ontario for the G8 and G20 summits, officials are scrambling to get a licence for the security company put in charge of screening services.

Contemporary Security Canada, which conducted screening at the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, was hired by the RCMP to provide similar services at the end of this month as part of the largest security event in Canadian history.

On Tuesday the provincial Ministry of Community Safety admitted the company isn’t licenced in Ontario and it’s now rushing to provide proper accreditation. Ministry spokeswoman Laura Blondeau is confident the required paperwork will come through in time for the summits June 25-26th in Huntsville and June 26-27th in Toronto.

Background checks are now being conducted on the company and the 1,100 guards who’ll work the summits.

Blondeau said the U.S.-based security company has a long-standing relationship with the RCMP.
