According to Wired Magazine, the Senate Armed Services Committee has voted to cancel funding for two high tech weapons systems that the United States Navy has been developing to fight wars of the future.
These systems are the free electron laser, which is envisioned for ship board missile defense, and the electromagnetic rail gun, which is being designed to strike at targets thousands of miles away, deep within an enemy’s territory.
With the budget deficit in excess of $1.5 trillion, every account in the federal government is being scrutinized for cuts.
