A little background on Valient Shield: It is a U.S. only, biennial field training in blue-water environment.
Valient Shield “enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking, and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land, and in cyberspace, in response to a range of mission areas.”
Amongst participating ships is the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Valient Shield also includes 15 surface ships, more than 160 aircraft and approximately 15,000 personnel from the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army and Marine Corps.
The U.S. Navy exercise takes place north of Guam, at the Marianas Island Range Complex.
“The Marianas Island Range Complex is a premier training environment that allows the joint force a unique opportunity to come together and train side-by-side at the high end,” exercise director Rear Adm. Daniel Dwyer said in a release.
