The Springfield Police Department raised $86,000 during a bike ride honoring LEOs killed in the line of duty.

The Springfield Police Department has donated $86,000 for a monument at the Massachusetts State House honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

According to MassLive, the money was raised in the 2013 SPD Ride To Remember Bike Ride, which was organized in memory of slain LEOs Kevin Ambrose of Springfield and Jose Torres of Westfield. The check for $86,000 was donated during a Wednesday ceremony in Springfield which was attended by board members of the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation.

Police are hoping to raise even more money at the 2014 edition of the SPD Ride To Remember Bike Ride, which is set for September 20. Proceeds will go toward the memorial, as well as Christina’s House, which is a shelter for women and children in Springfield.
