A St. Louis native who’s an executive with an international shipping company says he’s being detained in the Middle East and falsely accused of smuggling guns.

Steve Dolan is vice president of shipping in the Middle East and East Africa for APL Emirates LLC and has lived in Dubai for two years.

Dolan told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( ) in a telephone interview Saturday that Dubai authorities have accused him of smuggling guns and confiscated his passport, leaving him stuck in Dubai while his case moves through the courts there.

Dolan says he doesn’t know anything about the approximately 30,000 handguns and ammunition authorities discovered in a container that stopped in Dubai between Turkey and Djibouti. He said he has gotten no help from APL, where he has worked for 27 years. An APL spokesman did not return an email seeking comment Saturday.
