Line-of-duty deaths may grab the public’s attention, but more police officers die by their own hands than by then hands of criminals as suicide has become the greatest cop killer. Although exact statistics are more difficult to find than those that concern the general public, many who have studied the officer suicides agree that the stress of the job and easy access to weapons can contribute to a higher risk for ending one’s own life.
