An alert teenager can be credited for breaking up a crime spree in West University Wednesday evening that led to the arrest of five people.

A young woman was walking in the 3700 block of Arnold when she spotted four men in the backyard of a home around 8:45 p.m. The woman did not think the men belonged at the home and called 911 to notify them of her suspicions.

West University police arrived to find one man coming out of the backyard and immediately took him into custody. The other three suspects fled, hopping fences along the way. An HPD helicopter, Bellaire police, Southside police and a K-9 unit joined in the search. Authorities eventually found one of the suspects hiding and placed him under arrest.
