The Texas Department of Public Safety is changing to a new, less costly state-issued service pistol for its highway patrol troopers.
Agency spokesman Tom Vinger stated: A Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun has been selected to replace the .357-caliber SIG Sauer as the official-issue service pistol for troopers. The new handgun is a slightly lighter weapon that was selected after rigorous testing and will be issued for the first time to new recruits starting with the January training class.
