NEWPORT, Tenn.(AP)– Three inmates escaped a Tennesse jail after overpowering a guard Sunday night.

Officials say 23-year-old Mark Allen Capanyola, 34-year-old James L. Reed and 29-year-old Joshua Lynn Parker escaped from the Cocke County Jail after the inmates called the guard to their cell Sunday night asking for a mop and bucket to clean the floor. When the guard reached the door, the inmates allegedly knocked him to the ground, stole his keys and fled.

Officials say the guard had several cuts and bruises. He was taken to a hospital and released.

Police say Parker was convicted of second-degree homicide. He is also a registered sex offender.
