U.S. defense contractor Draken International will purchase up to 28 subsonic L-159 military planes from the Czech Republic, in a deal worth roughly $25.8 million, according to Czech Defense Minister Vlastimil Picek.
The planes were built between 1999 and 2003. The Czech Republic has been trying to sell them since 2004 after they outlived their usefulness to the Czech army.
Picek said the deal would be signed in January or February, with the first planes tentatively scheduled for delivery by the end of 2014.
Draken International is a Florida-based defense contractor that cooperates with the U.S. army.
