The U.S. Ordnance M60E6 machine gun has officially been selected by the Royal Danish Army as its new General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), the result of testing which began last year in Denmark as part of their GPMG Replacement Program. Click here to see the M60E6 in action.

According to Soldier Systems, roughly 700 of these machine guns have been purchased by Denmark, and delivery is set to begin sometime in late 2014. Denmark is also reportedly looking into acquiring an optics and sensor package for the M60E6 which will feature daylight optics, thermal optics, red dot optics, tactical lights, tactical lasers, and laser range finders.

Chambered in 7.62mm NATO, the M60E6 from U.S. Ordnance is a gas-operated, belt fed, air-cooled machine gun which fires from an open bolt and features a quick-change barrel. It also has an M1913 Picatinny rail for mounting optics and accessories, as well as an M1913 rail handguard for IR laser aiming devices and other sensors. In addition, the M60E6 has an adjustable front sight, ergonomic pistol grip with a storage compartment, an ergonomic buttstock with a hinged shoulder rest, and a lightweight, one-hand operated receiver mounted bipod. The M60E6 mounts directly or adapts to standard NATO tripod and vehicle mounts. The barrel has a length of 37 inches (short) and 38 inches (heavy fluted barrel). See below for additional details.
