Someone told police that an airplane passenger was carrying explosives when he was not. The hoax resulted in the plane’s abrupt landing and a significant response from law enforcement.
About 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, the anonymous caller claimed 29-year-old Christopher Shell brought liquid explosives aboard Flight 1267. The US Airways flight from Philadelphia to Dallas made a U-turn half an hour into the flight and landed back at Philadelphia International Airport, reports the Daily Mail.
Armed police boarded the flight and escorted Shell off in handcuffs. Explosives experts and trained dogs searched the planes for dangerous substances but did not detect anything. Shell, likewise, was unarmed.
