WASHINGTON – Global climate change will have wide-ranging implications for US national security interests over the next 20 years, as global warming leads to environmental refugees trying to escape drought, famine, and rising sea levels, according to a report compiled by the National Intelligence Council.

These environmental changes will likely lead to an increase in illegal immigration, the destabilization of shaky governments and add to terrorism worldwide, all of which could threaten U.S. national security.
