Virginia’s one handgun a month restriction will end July 1 with Gov. Bob McDonnell’s signature today on legislation overturning the state’s landmark law.

The governor this afternoon signed a measure to repeal the ban that was instituted in 1993 under former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder when gun trafficking was a problem along the East Coast.

McDonnell said on WTOP radio in Washington this morning that he would make an announcement later today about the measure, after speaking with people on both sides of the issue.
