The opportunity to win a handmade fixed blade knife is always nice, but helping 20-year-old would-be military recruit battling cancer in the process is even better.

The raffle, which only runs until April 20, was created to help Wyatt Sutherby.

Sutherby grew up on Marine Corps bases around the country — his father, Ken, worked procurement for the USMC’s scout sniper program and retired out of MCB Quantico — and planned on entering the military himself in the Fall of 2016, when suddenly he began experiencing severe leg pain. An MRI scan revealed a large tumor on his spine. Within a week, he lost the use of his right leg. He then underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor.

Ever since then, Wyatt has been fighting this large and aggressive cancer. Unfortunately, many of the services required to treat it aren’t covered by his family’s VA insurance, which he won’t be covered by anyway once he turns 21. According to Breach Bang Clear, Wyatt recently went in for his third round of chemo in Seattle. While this was going on, the lease on his family’s house was up. His family has a place to move to, but the house still needs to be modified so Wyatt can function around the house. One can imagine the enormous financial burden.

That’s where you come in.

You have a chance to win a Wharncliffe/Viking Seax fixed blade and the money goes to help Wyatt’s family. It’s a collaboration between Survival Hardware LLC and Valhalla Bound. It’s basically an adjusted version of the HOG pattern from Tops Knives USA and Survival Hardware LLC. Here’s more information via the raffle page:

The adjustments are a modified flat grind on a Wharncliffe style / Viking Seax blade. The handle scales are naturally stabilized African Padauk secured by handmade brass barrel nuts and Philips head screws to the full tang blade. There is also the addition of the skull spike/glass breaker to the pommel ring. The sheath is a Survival Hardware hybrid sheath. This sheath is a full carbon fiber patterned kydex sheath incased in a leather frog that has a secondary snap retention and also acts as the belt hanger. This blade is the first completed version of this new design.
